Mercy Clinics
Cedar Rapids, Iowa

In late 2022 Mercy approached ECSI to look at upgrading the obsolete controls in the Internist clinic in Cedar Rapids. In 2023 the system was expanded to include the South clinic.

Challenge

The Challenge

Mechanically, the systems consisted of newer packaged roof top units, bypass dampers and numerous zone dampers. The Automated Logic WebCTRL system monitors and maintains the critical environment needed for the medical spaces as well as implementing several data analytic tools to provide the owner a complete look at building performance.

PROCESS

The Process

The obsolete controls at both buildings were replaced with new BACnet Automated Logic controls and connected to the WebCTRL Cloud service.

Result

The Result

The intuitive WebCTRL front end allows the building owner to monitor and adjust the operation of these HVAC systems. Duct work floor plans were provided as a troubleshooting and maintenance tool to allow service personnel to easily locate zone dampers without needlessly disturbing ceiling tile. Using as-built mechanical plans, our in-house graphics department were able to easily and accurately build floor plan graphics showing locations for all above ceiling mechanical equipment. This saves an immense amount of time when trying to troubleshoot an issue. Heating and cooling modes are monitored and the ductwork changes color from gray to red or blue to easily identify which zones are heating and which ones are cooling. Zone history is a free WebCTRL add on that allows for a quick analysis of the zones to determine which ones may not be operating properly. WebCTRL also can seamlessly connect to an email server to send out alarm email and text message notifications for critical alarms. ECSI developed a unique program to allow this function to be tested on a regular or on-demand basis. This provides a means to test the network infrastructure regularly to ensure that emergency alarms are annunciated properly.
